ALL ABOUT THE DANCERS...How many dancers do you employ and how old are they?
Depending on how many shows we have touring, we can have up to 350 dancers working for us at any one time. Ages vary from 18yrs - 25yrs old on average.
Do the dancers get homesick as they travel the world?
It's an exciting life as they travel the globe seeing all the different countries in such a short space of time. Even with the glitz and the glamour that surrounds them, they all miss home and their loved ones.
Where are the dancers from and how long have they been dancing for?
Our dancers are from England and Ireland, and they have been dancing all their young lives, often from as young as five years old.
How long does it take for the dancers to rehearse for the first time, and how often do they rehearse after then?
Initial rehearsals can take up to twelve weeks. Traditionally boys are slower than girls in the early stages, but eventually they all catch up. Once they're in the show, ongoing rehearsals and training is intense and vigorous up to four hours everyday. Perfect fittness and a huge amount of stamina is vital for a show of this type.
Do the dancers follow a strict diet?
Their diet mainly consists of carbohydrates and protein in order to maintain their energy and strength. They very rarely put on weight because of the vigorous rehearsal and show schedules.
Do the dancers have to wear special shoes?
Absolutely. Each dancer has six different pairs of shoes for the show, as various dance routines require specialised footwear.
Do they have a make–up artist on tour or a hairdresser?
Everyone does their own hair and make-up for every show. We give them guidelines as to the general appearance we want to portray on stage, but it's important that each of the dancers are individuals and their own personality and flare shines through.
Are the costumes made especially for Spirit of the Dance?
Yes, each costume is handmade for every dancer. Wardrobe changes every few months to refresh the look of the show.
Have you had any Spirit weddings?
Congratulations are in order to a number of our cast members who have met their true loves while working for the show and married.
How long do the dancers stay with the show?
Once a dancer has settled into the show, and asuming they love what they are doing and we like the standard of their performance, they tend to stay with us on a permenant basis. Several of our dancers have been with us for five years or more.
Is the show updated from year to year?
Yes, one of the values that fans of the show really enjoy is that ech year we bring in new and exciting dance styles to reflect the change in taste of what is popular.
How difficult is it for a dancer to join Spirit of the Dance?
We only take the very best dancers. When we audition we see hundreds of hopefuls, but only the very best get offered the chance of a training session with us. We may select no more than ten dancers out of 200 people at an audition. We then take these ten people and put them through two weeks rigorous training. At the end of the training period, we may end up with just five dancers that we think have the required qualities to perform in our show.
